In October 2010, the Adeona Foundation hosted its third annual Cowboys & Indians Halloween fundraiser. The event was a great success selling out more than 850 tickets two weeks in advance. The strong show of support among Adeona’s constituency of young professionals within New York City made for a promising outcome.
Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, the proceeds from this event went to The Facing History School (FHS) located on the west side of midtown Manhattan. The Facing History School is a small 425 student public high school that was founded in 2005. The school integrates Facing History and Ourselves’ mission, values, and resources into a rigorous four-year curriculum preparing students for post-secondary education and the ability to be active citizens in a democracy. As far as academic achievements go, the student’s at FHS have consistently ranked in the top percentile among other public schools in the city. Despite their efforts and high marks, many of these promising students struggle to attend the colleges and universities they have worked so hard for as they are financially constrained by expensive tuition and application costs.
On November 8, 2010, Members of the Adeona Foundation and their fellow supporters volunteered their time at FHS by helping current seniors complete their college applications and make informed decisions about their post-secondary education. Additionally, the Executive Directors of the Adeona Foundation presented the students and teachers of FHS with a $40,000 donation to help fund FHS’s college mentoring and scholarship programs. It is our hope that this contribution will help deserving FHS students achieve a post-secondary education. We also hope to show these students that there are others in this world who believe in their hard work, hopefully inspiring them to pursue their goals throughout college and beyond.
